Care Instructions

The following Care Instructions are for bonded gold and plated gold jewelry, not solid gold.

Maintaining the shine of your jewelry over the years relies on following the proper care instructions. While it may be challenging to follow these instructions perfectly at all times, simply keeping them in mind can make a significant difference in preserving your jewelry's shine.

I. General Care:

  1. Avoid Water: Remove your gold plated jewelry before showering, swimming, or any water related activities. The chemicals in the water can cause your jewelry to prematurely fade. If your jewelry is exposed to water, make sure to rinse your jewelry off after in clean water, and dry completely. The goal is to minimize the amount of time chemicals are in contact with the jewelry.

  2. Perfumes and Chemicals: Keep your jewelry away from perfumes, lotions, hair sprays, and household chemicals. These substances can corrode the plating and dull the finish. The best way to do this is to apply fragrances before putting on your jewelry, this way it will not be directly sprayed onto the jewelry.

  3. Storage: Store your jewelry in a cool, dry place. Consider using anti-tarnish pouches or jewelry boxes with soft, padded interiors to prevent scratching and tarnishing.

  4. Sunlight: Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, as it can cause the gold plating to fade over time. This is more of a problem when it comes to storing your jewelry, not when the jewelry is being worn.

II. Cleaning: Regular cleaning helps maintain the brilliance of your gold-plated jewelry. Here's how to do it safely:

  1. Soft Cloth: Use a soft, lint-free cloth, such as a microfiber or jewelry polishing cloth, to gently wipe the jewelry. This will remove everyday dirt, oils, and fingerprints.

  2. Warm Soapy Water: For slightly more stubborn dirt, create a mild soapy solution. Mix a few drops of mild dishwashing soap (without additives like bleach or citrus) with warm water. Dip a soft brush, like a toothbrush with soft bristles, into the soapy water and gently scrub the jewelry. Rinse with clean water and pat dry with a soft cloth.

  3. Jewelry Cleaner: Occasionally, you can use a jewelry-specific cleaner that is safe for gold-plated items. Follow the manufacturer's instructions carefully. Ensure the cleaner is suitable for your jewelry, as some cleaners may be too abrasive. Avoid excessive use of jewelry cleaner; cleaning excessively when unnecessary can harm the outer gold layers of your jewelry.
